Tourist signage plan of the Province of Almería

The province promotes its tourist signage with an ambitious Sismotur plan.

In 2022, the Almería Provincial Council awarded Sismotur the development of the Intelligent Tourist Signage Plan for the entire province, marking a milestone in the modernization of the region’s tourist infrastructure. This ambitious project involved an investment of 1.5 million euros, aimed at improving the signage of the provincial road network and access to the main tourist centers of Almería.

The plan has been developed using a traditional master plan methodology, which included a thorough study of the province’s road network. Priority destinations for signage have been analyzed, defining the most effective access routes and detailing the signage at major intersections and strategic points of the road network. This analysis has enabled the design of a coherent and efficient signage system that will facilitate tourist mobility and enhance their visiting experience throughout the entire province.

In addition to vehicular signage, the plan has also included the implementation of intelligent tourist signage for pedestrian facilities. This includes the installation of informational panels, totems, interpretive tables, and stands, which will be equipped with advanced technology to provide contextualized and up-to-date information to visitors. Through interactive systems, tourists will be able to easily access digital content about Almería’s natural, cultural, and tourist heritage, significantly enhancing their experience in the region.

With this commitment to innovation and technology, Almería strengthens its position as a top-tier tourist destination, facilitating access and guidance for visitors in their journeys through the province. The project not only improves mobility and access to tourist resources but also promotes more sustainable tourism adapted to the new demands of the digital traveler.

This comprehensive plan is a key piece in the strategy of the Diputación de Almería to boost tourism in the province, modernizing its infrastructures and positioning the region as a benchmark in smart tourism.
