Sismotur inaugurates smart tourist signage in the city of Palencia. November 22, 2022
The city of Palencia has implemented an innovative Smart Tourist Signage system, presented by Pablo Otero from SISMOTUR.
This project integrates physical signs with digital tools, allowing visitors to use their mobile devices to access detailed and personalized information about local points of interest via QR codes and beacons. The technology facilitates interaction in multiple languages and provides key data on tourist behavior, enhancing the visitor experience and improving the management of tourist resources.
The event was attended by Mayor Mario Simón and Laura Lombraña, Councilor for Tourism, who highlighted the importance of this initiative to position Palencia as a modern and accessible tourist destination. Lombraña stated that the project represents a significant advance for the city, allowing it to offer a high-quality service and obtain valuable information to improve the tourist offer, turning each sign into a 24/7 Tourist Office, operating 365 days a year in the tourist’s native language. A total of 257 informational elements were installed, meeting the criteria of universal accessibility: eight zone signs, 46 totems about tourist resources, and 203 directional arrows.
